Thai basil ~ Ocimum basilicum var. thyrsiflora
A culinary herb that seems to be gaining in popularity (in the western world) every year.
Ironically used more in Vietnamese cooking than Thai, it is a spicey basil with a distinctive anise and licorice scent and taste.
The stems are purple with dark green spear like leaves. Pinch the flowers out to encourage longevity and bushiness. Needs to be planted in a well warm situation.
